The week of "C's"... Childrens Creative Corner and Clean-up Craft Room {update}

Children's Creative Corner

Want a quick and easy Valentine Craft to make with your children? We suggest making a heart picture. Here is an example of what it looks like finished.
This is M with her heart picture.  She picked out the colors to match her room.
To complete this look you will need:
  • Blank canvas (we found ours in a set of two at Big Lots)
  • Card stock paper, your color choice {we recommend 3-4 colors}
  • Glue (any quick drying glue would work) {we love Elmers Craft Bond Quick Dry Glue}
  • Something to cut your hearts.  We used our Cricut, but you could use a punch or even a pair of scissors.
  • Pencil

To start:

 Cut your 8.5" by 11" paper down to size to fit on the Cricut mat.  Our mat is 6" wide, so we chopped several pages down to this size.  And apply to the sticky side of the mat.  The Cricut machine makes 8 2" hearts in no time.

Draw your heart (or whatever design you choose) on your canvas. You could change it up for each season, or other holidays as well.  We think a shamrock would be adorable with different color greens.  Or maybe a snowflake or even a snowman! Add glitter and have it shine.  The possibilities are endless.

 Fold your hearts in half (for added dimension) and apply glue to the spine of the heart.  (as shown to the left)

Apply hearts in a random order.  But making sure to remain in the line. (as shown below)

 Continue in this fashion until the entire space is filled.  Here is our finished heart.

Our leftovers, ready for another craft project.

 CRAFT ROOM UPDATE

As we go through each of the pieces of fabric it is amazing to see what we thought we should keep.  We have learned that we don't need to keep pieces of fabric that is less than a fat quarter big.  It makes our small room feel even more cramped with the small odds and ends.  It is very freeing to say goodbye to clutter.

AAAAHHHHH! I can't believe we have more!!! The sorting begins.

IS this a keeper? Oh SEW many decisions!!

You will never believe it, but this is ACTUALLY trash, we found in our stash... Haven't even bagged the donation pile yet.

TIP OF THE WEEK

Are your lips chapping in the cool dry winter?  How about a lip exfoliator.  It is SEW easy.  Make a paste of sugar and petroleum jelly.  Using a toothbrush (purchase cheap toothbrushes at a dollar store) massage the paste into your lips.  Wipe off excess with a washcloth.  Now you are kissable!

{Are your elbows and knees jealous? You can use the same concoction on those areas as well}
